Today I’m delighted to welcome another author from the Wild Rose Press’s Scarlet Rose line, where you’ll find the spiciest stories. Nancy Fraser’s short story Trust Me features a 40-something divorcee who finds surprise passion and a new start.
Tax consultant Katherine Weller isn’t ready for a relationship after a divorce that left her empty. But when her best friend suggests she set up a sex-only date through Lusty Liaisons, a unique and exclusive dating service, she’s uncertain but intrigued.
Maybe a hot romp with a sexy, younger man is exactly what she needs to take that confident first step into her new life as a single woman.
Excerpt:
Katherine Weller crumpled the attorney’s letter into a thick ball and tossed it aside, her entire life landing haphazardly on the floor beside the wastebasket.
The final dissolution of assets held jointly with her ex now firmly, irrevocably behind her. The house, the boat, the vacation condo…all gone.
She fingered the check, staring at the sum total of her marriage written out in a numerical formula. No emotion, no memories.
At forty-two, she was starting her personal life over. Alone.
Thank goodness for her job. At the moment, it was the only thing keeping her sane.
“So? Did you do it?” Lillie’s question broke through Katherine’s bout of self-pity.
Katherine raised her head and met her best friend’s wide grin. “Do what?”
“Contact the agency I recommended. Fix yourself up with a stud for a wild night of sex.”
“Don’t be silly. The ink on my divorce papers is still wet and—”
“Your divorce was just the icing on the cake,” Lillie said. “You and that asshat husband of yours hadn’t been together…in the biblical sense…for nearly two years.”
Katherine shook her head. “I’m not ready for another relationship. I may never be.”
“I know! That’s the beauty of it. Lusty Liaisons isn’t a dating app or a happily-ever-after, find-your-perfect-mate, service. It’s about sex, pure and simple. Hot, steamy, screw-you-till-you-scream sex.”
Just the mention of sex sent a shiver up Katherine’s spine. It had been ages. So much so, she wasn’t sure her body could take a night of hot sex, no matter how great it might feel.
“I don’t think I could do it. I mean, the only man I’ve ever been with—”
“Then don’t think. Just do.” Lillie reached for the laptop sitting between them on the table and pulled it toward her. “I’ll get you started.”

NANCY FRASER—Jumping Across Romance Genres with Gleeful Abandon—is an Amazon Top 100 and Award-Winning author who can’t seem to decide which romance genre suits her best. So, she writes them all.
Like most authors, Nancy began writing at an early age, usually on the walls and with crayons or, heaven forbid, permanent markers. Her love of writing often made her the English teacher’s pet which, of course, resulted in a whole lot of teasing. Still, it was worth it.
Published in multiple genres, Nancy currently writes for three publishers and has recently dipped her toe into the self-publishing market. She has published over thirty books in full-length, novella, and short format.
When not writing (which is almost never), Nancy dotes on her five energetic grandchildren and looks forward to traveling and reading when time permits. Nancy lives in Atlantic Canada where she enjoys the relaxed pace and colorful people.
A few questions for the author:
- Tell us about your inspiration for this story.
Sex. Or more precisely, my memories of sex. The wonderful thing about the erotic short stories from TWRP’s Scarlet line is that you can live out any fantasy through your characters. The naughtier the better.
- Do you write in other genres?
A few. LOL. My author tagline is: Jumping Across Genres with Gleeful Abandon. I’ve published over thirty books in every possible romance genre from sweet/vintage (think the 1950s and 60s), to hot erotic romance (like Trust Me, and its predecessor Touch Me). I’ve done time travel, both futuristic and historical, straight historical, contemporary, even an alien/military romance. You name it, I’ve done it.
- What’s your favorite part of the writing life?
Being able to work on my pajamas. Okay, maybe not just that. It’s the friendship of other authors, the generosity we show each other, and just the freedom to create something that will—hopefully—bring other people joy or escape. Or both.
- What do you do for fun when you’re not writing?
Darn! I didn’t realize we were allowed to have fun when we aren’t writing. For me, it’s travel. I had plans to take my three granddaughters to Paris this summer. So much for that idea.
- Any advice for aspiring writers?
First off, don’t share your writing with your mom, your sister, your cousin, and expect them to be objective and tell you if something sucks. They won’t And that’s not what you need to hear. Second, chart your own course. Set yourself goals, one year out, two, five. But always be willing to adjust those goals if need be.
- What makes you put down a book without finishing?
Poor writing or poor editing. I’ve been blessed with a number of great editors who don’t mind calling me on my flaws. Not that I have any, of course. Now that I’m also self-publishing, I’m even more obsessed with getting it right.
- Which authors have inspired you?
Hands down, Elizabeth Lowell. Her work is outstanding. I still have my dog-eared copy of her 1986 Silhouette Intimate Moments #256, Chain Lightning, that I read every year on New Years and on my birthday. It keeps me grounded to realize that, no matter how many books I publish, I can always get better.
Connect with Nancy Fraser:
Thank you so much for featuring my latest release. I’d love to hear from your readers on how they feel about ultra-steamy romance. I know, it’s my gulity pleasure.
Delightful interview, ladies. And Nancy, I admire your ability to write across genres. When I get deep into a genre, it’s hard for me to switch up, although I plan to do so very soon. Best of luck with your latest.
Barbara, sometimes it can be a challenge for sure. Especially when going from the really steamy stuff to the milder or the more complicated. However, it’s always a fun challenge.
Great interview! Always nice getting to know fellow Roses.
Thank you Jennifer. We Roses have to stick together!
