Happy holidays from our house to yours! I hope this post finds you and yours well, relaxed (a lot to ask, I know!), and ready to celebrate whichever holidays light up your heart with friends and family at your side. If you love to cook, may your holiday treats emerge from the oven perfectly golden and delicious. If you don’t, may your take-out be fabulous–and don’t forget to tip! A thousand thanks to all the servers, retail workers, drivers, and delivery people who make our holiday celebrations possible.
Hubs and I are celebrating our first Las Vegas Christmas with our daughter-in-law’s family. “Big Pat,” her father, is an amazing chef who’ll fill our bellies with the traditional Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve. DIL’s grandmother, great aunt, aunt, and cousins will join us–three generations of party!
To kick off the celebration, we visited the huge maze of holiday lights in the Las Vegas Ballpark. Here we are petting one of the nine reindeer hidden in the maze.
And here’s the magical star at the end of the maze. So much bling! A very Vegas Christmas.

A Holiday Cocktail from Christmas Rekindled
Jaegertee
This sweet, boozy, “hunter’s tea” from Austria is the perfect warm-up tipple for après-ski. Just don’t drink one until you’ve reached the bottom of the ski run! Any spiced rum will do, but if you can get some, try Stroh rum from Austria for an authentic kick. If you choose Stroh 160, reduce the amount of rum—that stuff is strong.
In a saucepan, combine a cup (250 ml) of brewed black tea, a cup of orange juice, three whole cloves, a cinnamon stick, and three lemon slices. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about five minutes to blend the flavors. Turn the heat very low, then add a cup each (250 ml each) of red wine, spiced rum, plus a cup of plum brandy, apple brandy, or any other sweet liqueur you have lying around. Stir, cover the pan, and warm the mixture through but do not boil—you don’t want to burn off the alcohol! Remove from the heat, strain the Jaegertee, and add brown sugar to taste. Serve in mugs. Will serve about six—or one Jojo (Bangers Tavern’s ginormous bouncer). Prost!

Thanks for reading, and (I love saying this) see you next year! Here’s to a brighter 2022.
The maze sounds fun and that is a cool reindeer. Merry Christmas!
Thanks! Same to you and yours.
Merry Christmas Rhonda. We had kids, another couple who are their friends that moved to Tulsa with them and the friends’ two young daughters, for dinner. Whew, cooking for a crew wiped me out! I was asked to make a pot roast and vegetables. Non-traditional, but pretty darn good.
Love to you and yours. Helen
Thanks, Helen! We were lucky enough to be guests with DIL’s family–man, her dad can cook! Seafood for miles. Happy holidays to you and Don.
