Welcome, April!
Here in Las Vegas, we’ve hit the sweet spot: warm days, cool nights, endless sunshine. Our community pool is open, and we’re enjoying our evening chats on the patio while the trickle, trickle of our new fountain drowns out traffic noises. I’ve got a book cooking and one on pre-order (more on that below). But the biggest news: I’m a grandma! Rowan Rose was born on March 10th. She’s a strong, squirmy little person, and I love watching her facial expressions as she takes in the world. Her parents have asked what I’d like her to call me. I’m leaning toward Nana after my Dad’s mom, but really, that’s up to Baby Ro, isn’t it?

April 6 question – Have any of your books been made into audio books? If so, what is the main challenge in producing an audiobook?
Umm…no. At this point in my career, I just can’t afford the thousands of dollars it costs to produce an audiobook, much less seven. As I have an acting background, I like the idea of recording my own stories and may do that someday if I can rent time in a sound studio and hire a sound engineer to do the editing.
Side note: You know what drives me up a wall? When you tell someone you can’t afford something and they reply, “Think of it as an investment.” So I’m just supposed to pull the $$ out of thin air? Grr. Check your privilege, rich person!
I can recommend an excellent audiobook (of course!) to those contemplating recording their own audiobooks: Storyteller: How to Be an Audiobook Narrator by Lorelei King, narrator of the Stephanie Plum audiobooks and many more.

Bangers Tavern Romance 4: Jojo & Lana’s Story
I’m in the getting-to-know-my-characters phase of the next book in the Bangers Tavern Romance series. I love this part! Check out this amazing cover draft by my brilliant cover artist Wicked Smart Design.
Phlebotomist by day and Bangers Tavern’s hunky bouncer by night, Jojo Williams has been flirting with his coworker Lana Lopez for two years, but she never takes him seriously. Determined to convince her he’s the one who belongs at her side, he plunges into the hot mess that keeps her from dating. If he screws this up, his heart and hers won’t be the only ones broken.
Orphaned by a car wreck at twenty-two, Lana’s sole focus is keeping her teen brothers on track and together in the home they grew up in. One more slip-up, and her interfering tías will separate the boys. The last thing Lana needs is a big goof like Jojo meddling with her fragile little family.
But when the boys’ teen antics land them in trouble, Jojo may be the only person who can save them from the wrath of the tías. Her growing attraction to the gentle giant makes it harder and harder to shut him out, but loving him is a gamble that could cost her everything.
Thanks for reading!
To my IWSG buddies, I wish you happy writing in April. Drop a comment and tell me what you’re working on, or what you’re reading lately. Or tell me about your experience producing audiobooks, especially if you’ve taken the DIY route!
Congrats on being a grandma! That is such awesome news. I can’t wait to be one too. And I totally get why you don’t want to invest in producing your books in audioverson.
Congrats! And good luck with the formatting 🙂
Ronel visiting for IWSG day The Difference Between Reading Books and Collecting Books
More congrats on the arrival of Rowan Rose – what a lovely name.
How big are your books? Mine ran to a few hundred pounds each, but they are on the shorter side – 40,000 words. The narrator price is based on finished hours, so it’s worth their while to do a good job first time. Then again – you have the voice, so use it!
Oh, and some advice, please. I see Jojo used as a male name in the US… I’m using JoJo as a girl. Is this ultra-confusing, do you think? Should I change it? Then again… Chris, Lesley/ie, Charlie….
Jemima
My Jojo is a Joseph, and the childish nickname is a fun contrast with his enormous size. But I do have a Charlie/Charlotte in this series. As for book length, mine tend to land in the 80K-90K zone, typical for adult romance, at least in trad pub (which I’m not, but I aim to meet those genre expectations).
Congrats, Grandma! Nana? Nanny? It’s all good!
I too would like to try narrating my audiobooks, and actually have enough experience that I could do them myself at home. It’s just a matter of time… which I have none of.
Congratulations, Sadira! Being a grandmother is a wonderful, wonderful gift. Enjoy.
Love the cover. Really pretty.
Congrats on the new addition. Nana sounds great to me.
Anna from elements of emaginette
Congratulations, Grandma!
Two books coming out this year – very cool.
Rowan Rose is darling, Sadira! How exciting for you. I like the premise of Jojo and Lana’s story. I’m sure you’ll keep us posted about the book. Have lots of fun getting to know the characters.
Congrats Rhonda, looks like lots of cuddle time. 🙂
