Snoot is a Chocolate Lab and a retired military explosives detection K-9, AKA bomb-sniffer dog. He’s seen some terrible things during his service in Afghanistan, and so has his adoptive mama, Army surgeon Addison Connor.

Here you go. So tell us, what do you think of Trappers Cove?
I love it here! So many interesting smells, lots of room to run on the beach, seagulls to chase, and nice people who give head scratches. Between you and me, Addy seems more relaxed here. Before this trip, she was always distracted. I mean, she’d throw a ball for me after work and hide scent targets behind her condo, but her heart just wasn’t in it. Now, she’s laughing again. I’ve missed her laugh.
And what’s your opinion of her new friend Kieran?
The lighthouse guy? He smells great! Cooking smells and beachy smells and strong tea. I like his deep voice too, and he gives the best belly rubs. He’s kind of sad, though, just like my Addy. Last night, while they were sleeping, he started twitching and growling like he was having a bad dream. I had to lick his face for a long time before he settled down. Addy has bad dreams too.
Do you have bad dreams about…you know?
About the time before Addy? Yeah, I do–loud bangs and screams and the scent of blood. Running on the beach helps. So does cuddling Addy at night–and let me tell you, cuddling between Addy and Kieran is the best! I hope we can stay here. We make a good family.
